The Sheepshead
The Sheepshead belongs to the Sparidae family. Although it reaches a maximum size of about 76 cm and 22 lbs (9.6 kg), the adult sheepshead is most often about 5 to 3.6 kg and 35 cm long. The maximum known life span of the sheepshead is at least 20 years. They spawn in early spring. They can be fished all year round with the best season from December to April. The sheepshead has a deep oval body with a blunt snout and a small, almost horizontal mouth. The posterior nostril is split in appearance. The dorsal and anal fins include short, strong spines. The second spine of the anal fin is larger. The pectoral fins are long and extend beyond the anal opening when pressed (close to the body). The caudal fin is slightly forked. The adult sheepshead is silvery to greenish-yellow and has an olive back. There are five or six dark vertical crossbars on each side, which are the most distinct in young individuals. The caudal and pectoral fins are greenish, while the dorsal, anal and ventral fins are dark or black.

The White Grunt belongs to the Haemulidae family. It generally reach a length of 45 cm and a weight of 2.5 kg, the white grunt is a small fish. The maximum declared length is 46.0 cm and the weight is 4.38 kg. The maximum lifespan for white grunt is thought to be between 9 and 12 years old. Spawning takes place during most of the year. It can be fished all year round. The body is moderately elongated, with a high and compressed back. The head is long with a pointed snout. The dorsal and anal fins of the white grunt are completely covered with scales. The caudal fin is forked and the pectoral fin long and sickle-shaped. The scales above the side line are larger than those below the side line. The white grunt is silvery-white to creamy, the head is bronze to yellow dorsally while the ventral surface of the head and belly is white. There is a series of dark blue stripes on the head, bordered with yellow-brown and rising into the body. The margin of each scale is bronze and the back edge is often grey. The rows of ladders above the side line are larger than those below the side line. The spiny dorsal fin is chalky to yellowish-white, the soft dorsal fin, the soft anal fin and the caudal fin are brownish grey. Pelvic fins are chalky, while pectoral fins range from light yellow to chalky. A black spot is located on the precapping and the inside of the mouth is red. The colour of this fish is variable, the fish appearing in a shade corresponding to the immediate environment.

The Dolphinfish belongs to the Coryphaenidae family. Its length can reach a maximum of 2 m, but the average length reaches 1 m. Its average weight is 14 kg but it can reach more than 30 kg. It has a maximum lifetime of 4 years. It can reproduce all year round. The best time to catch it is from April to June. There are two species of dolphins. It is easy to distinguish the two species. They both have the same elongated and spindle-shaped shape. The single dorsal fin extends over the entire length of the body. The anal fin begins approximately in the middle of the body and ends at the same point as the dorsal fin. The body is elongated and fairly flattened and, like all carangidae, the pectoral fins are shaped like a sickle. Two thorns exist in front of the anal fins. The small scales are silvered laterally, but the dorsal part is blue-green mixed with golden reflections. The anal fin is bright yellow. It has a very specific black spot on the edge of the lid.

The Southern Kingfish belongs to the Scianidae family. The southern kingfish can reach about 50 centimeters, but a more common adult length is 30 centimeters for a weight of 1.15 kg. It has a lifespan of 6 years. They breed from March to September. It can be fished all year round. The Southern kingfish has an elongated body and a lower or downwardly directed mouth, with the snout extending beyond the mouth. They have only one rigid barbell under their chin. Kingfish are demersal fish, which means they live near the bottom. The southern kingfish is silver-grey, paler below and may have a coppery sheen. They often have seven or eight dark bars on the sides of the body. The dorsal fin is divided into two sections. Male and female fish have a similar appearance.
